Development of sustainable, modular furniture designs from concept to product with commercial value. Main innovative features include modular furniture units that are flexible in combination and therefore versatile in use. To achieve these features, novel connector and quick-release systems will be developed and tested, and innovative folding and storage solutions will be conceptualized. Holistic furniture systems will be developed based on the modules and will cover different user needs including living room, bedroom, bathroom, entrance, and kitchen. A key component of the proposed project concerns the use of local raw material (furniture-grade hardwood) from regional sources from within the Vestland region. The unique and innovative approach of modularity and flexibility within the furniture systems will improve home organization and space utilization, making everyday's life more functional. Furthermore, by establishing a regional supply network for the raw material needed for future furniture production, this project will re-invest project funds in the local economy and result in environmentally sound choices in regard to supporting local forestry efforts and reduction of CO2 emissions.
