Vitamin K2, MK-7, an important vitamin for human health

Kappa Bioscience AS is an innovative Norwegian biotech company where the primary business focus has been development of a novel synthesis route for the production of vitamin K2/menaquinone-7 (MK-7) of high purity, with excellent documentation and high biological activity. The production facility is in Oslo. Kappa is a B2B manufacturer and end users are predominantly consumers in the dietary supplements market. Since Kappa entered the European market in 2012 they have experienced a tremendous growth driven by several factors where the most important are increasing awareness substantiated by growing scientific documentation and a simplified/improved manufacturing that has given a significant reduction in selling price. MK-7 plays multiple roles in the body where the best documentation is on the utilization of calcium where it is shown to direct calcium from soft tissues (like blood vessels) and into bones. Clinical studies have shown beneficial cardiovascular effects and improved bone density. The science of MK-7 is young, and there are many conditions that have not yet been tested where scientists think MK-7 could play a role. In this project Kappa will improve the synthesis route of MK-7 to increase the capacity and make it more cost efficient. Kappa will also continue to investigate and document the health benefits of MK-7.
