Sensocure AS is a medical device company that develops and manufactures biomedical sensors for clinical applications. IscAlertTM is a real-time CO2 sensor developed to provide an early warning of ischemia, a condition whereby restricted blood flow cause body tissues and organs to deteriorate and die due to oxygen deprivation. Ischemia may cause tissue infarctions like stroke and cardiac infarction and is a common complication after surgery and organ/tissue trauma. Indeed, ischemia is the number 1 killer worldwide. An early warning of ischemia allows for early treatment and reversal of the incurred damage, which may help improve patients' health, save lives and considerable health care expenses. The development in the invasive and implantable device space has accelerated greatly, but some key challenges remain, limiting the use, application, accuracy and longevity of invasive and implantable devices. For instance, among major challenges that exist for invasive, tethered biomedical sensor systems, is the availability of manufacturable solutions that ensures biocompatibility, accuracy and stability. Biocompatible encapsulations and membranes, epoxies and coatings, electrode materials and surfaces, electrolytes and biomaterials are all areas that need further research. This project will develop solutions to removing or alleviating limiting issues, targeting the root causes, and using novel materials, nanoscale features and functional elements.
