Fish are more sensitive to pathogen infection during their early life stages (egg, larvae and juvenile) because of their immature immune system. Currently, Flavobacterium is one the main disease challenge in trout production causing important costs for the salmonid industry. Despite the efforts made by the feeding producing companies, the available functional feedings in the marked do not satisfy completely the challenges regarding Flavobacterium. In this context, the present project aimed to improved functional diets containing health additives that could improve both gut morphology/barrier and immune function as natural defenses against Flavobacterium. It is expected that the new knowledge resulted from this project help in the development of improved diets designed specifically to boost disease resistance in trout juveniles.
