Offentlig prosjektsammendrag

OSC has spent many years developing a simulation package that has an unrivalled environmental realism. The aim of the proposed Nebula platform is to make this environment open for others to use as the basis for co-simulation, and to add their own simulated systems into. In practice this means that OSC delivers a framework with all correct physical rules and constraints applied, allowing others to focus on their specialist and desired simulation subject, whether that is on a macro level such as vessel hydrodynamics, crane operations and vehicle motions, or on a micro level, such as hydraulics, pneumatics and electric systems. The Nebula platform will run in the cloud, allowing maximum exposure for uptake. This sandbox environment OSC will develop, combined with OSC or external simulation models facilitates full implementation of the digital twin concept, including out of the box real time simulation for design verification and testing. A digital twin is an aggregation of simulation models, or building blocks, put together to create a complex system. As well as real time simulation for operations and modifications to the system, making digital twins allows testing and verification of complex systems in a way not currently possible without testing on the real system, which is rarely possible. Using Monte Carlo simulations, or “what if” methods, on digital twins to analyse the robustness of complex systems and predict their short and long term behaviours, which is key for safety, speed of development and redundancy of these systems. OSC are involved in the Open Simulation Platform project being led by Sintef, Rolls-Royce Marine, NTNU and DNV GL, which is seen as a benefit for implementing standardization functionality and opening markets to OSC, however the Nebula platform will not be dependent on the OSP or duplicate the intended functionality of OSP.
